The Will to a System

(Written 9/30)

In philosophy (and knowledge in general) there is a great drive to create a system to understand things. It underpins induction, science, and pretty much all of knowledge. However, when we create a system, we must make sure not to commit the mistake of coming to think that the system which was brought about by us somehow came “before” events. A system is an explanation, not necessarily a fact. One must stay vigilant around systems.

Nietzsche talks about the “Will to a system” somewhere in his aphorisms. If only I could remember where...

I wonder...what would the world be like for someone who used no system? If there were no understanding of relation or cause? Questions relating to logicism, empiricism, pragmatism, start to arise in my mind...a topic that needs to be expanded someday.
